We are so excited to officially announce the arrival of our son, Finn Xavier Acosta, born November 21st, 2011 at 2:54pm, weighing in at 8 lb. 5 oz. and 21 inches long.  Finally getting to meet him was one of the most profound experiences of our lives.  We’re so blessed to have him here with us, and love him beyond words. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes.  It really means a lot to us!

This is the third version of our nautical themed design suite.  Nautical III is more bold in both pattern and color.  Here. it’s paired with a tangy orange envelope, but would also look amazing with a red, bright green or yellow envelope.  Like Nautical II, we thought this looked great stacked and tied with butcher’s twine and a silver-plated anchor charm.  I think it could also work with a pocketfold enclosure, or an enclosure band.  Other options include matching envelope liners, two-sided card printing of the pattern and anchor monogram, and coordinating mailing labels and custom postage.

A bold and vibrant option for a nautical wedding!

This is the third and final version of the Nautical design, originally created for Erin and Brian.  This is definitely the boldest version in both pattern and color.  I chose a bright tangy orange envelope, a more classic typography style, and thicker patterns to layer with the color.  Here, it is shown tied with the butcher’s twine and a tiny silver-plated pewter anchor charm.  I just love how all the patterns and colors look stacked like this.  However, it would also look great with a pocketfold enclosure, and it could surely stand on it’s own without any enclosure at all!

To balance the bold feel, I paired it will a lighter color pattern for the envelope liners and custom map.  Overall, I think it has a vibrant, exciting look to it.

As promised, this is version two of the nautical themed invitations that I designed for my cousin, Erin, and her husband, Brian.  This set was more vintage themed in style and typography especially.  It was intended to be bound together with butchers twine and an optional silver-plated pewter anchor charm.  The simple borders are designed to look great stacked upon each other in this fashion.  I personally liked this set paired with a navy baronial (pointed flap) envelope, which I thought went well with the vintage feel.

Another favorite detail for this version is the Nautical Flag custom postage, which spells out LOVE in the nautical alphabet.  This is a great sample of a tangent that you can spend hours on designing, and ultimate use minimally in the final design.  (Hopefully I will still finish my nautical flag invitation design someday!)

Perfect for a vintage / nautical themed wedding!

I’m so excited to finally get this design on the site!

This was custom designed for my cousin Erin’s wedding which was just a couple weeks ago on September 17th.  She and her new husband, Brian, were married at the Jefferson Beach Marina, then had their reception onboard the Ovation Yacht.  We cruised the Detroit River all afternoon and it was just so beautiful and perfect.  I was also honored to also be a bridesmaid in the wedding… at 7.5 months pregnant!  I think I did OK, though!  I just had sea legs for the rest of the day, and my balance was pretty off while sailing.

Anyway, when it came time to design her invitations, Erin is like a sister to me, so I knew I was going to take this as over the top as she would let me.  : )  I thought the nautical theme was a given.

They were generous enough to give me full reign over the design, and trusted me to do whatever I wanted.  This can be wonderful if you know you have the same taste, or a nightmare if you don’t. Luckily, the result was the best-case scenario where we had trouble deciding over three different, but awesome, variations on the design.  In fact, I liked them all so much I’ve decided to add them all to our collection!

This first one is the version they actually decided to go with.  Erin fell in love with the pocketfold enclosure and the rope, and Brian like the simplicity of the design.  Our family got together to assemble them since there were so many pieces: from the main invitation set, to the enclosures, the envelope liners, the labels, postage, etc.  We literally formed an assembly line of eight people, busting it all out in only a few hours.  (If you had the luxury of time, but not a small team of people to help you assemble, it would definitely be worth spreading it out over a few days.)  At least I didn’t force her to do the wax seals too!  (haha)
